GSI is a multifaceted, multi-cultural, missions training experience.
Over the years the Free Methodist Church has grown exponentially around the world. But North Americans don't necessarily get to glimpse the excitement of what this means, or hear gripping stories of God at work, or see what passion for lost people looks like when lived out by "everyday" people in other lands.
Global Studies Intensive will give you perspective on the world Christian movement in a Free Methodist context and could very well give you new perspective on your own life and ministry.
GSI is not a program and it's not a classroom learning experience like you've known it.
GSI is designed so that you can learn as much from recognized experts in their field as you can informally through conversation and exposure to new sights, sounds, tastes and smells.
GSI is fluid and YOU contribute to the learning that takes place.
Sometimes just getting away and being surrounded by like-minded people who are eager learners with hearts for ministry is where you want to be and if so, GSI is you. It doesn't matter what your occupation or training is in, or if you're still in college and haven't quite decided what you want to do. GSI is for you if you have a desire to serve the Lord in cross-cultural ministry at home or abroad. Here's what former GSI participants are saying ...
"My experience with GSI in Thailand really changed my perspective in life. My prayer life and my intimacy with the Father increased ...There is never a day I do not gaze at a world map and ask where He will send me." -B. Kalaw, Philippines
"People gathered for GSI because somebody shared the Gospel with them previously. We need to pass the Gospel on. We need to help others become Christians too." -P. Guazon, Cambodia
"You can read things in books and magazines, but when you see the need face to face and hear things in person, it changes your heart. GSI exposed me to the hundreds of new opportunities that are available in missions, but also the hundreds of new challenges that go along with those opportunities. It showed me that it's time for the next generation of Christians to be willing to escape tradition and discover new, creative ways to reach the remaining unserved groups of the world. GSI has given me direction, broadened my horizons and challenged me." -R. Hurley, USA
"I feel the knowledge gained from GSI broadened my perspective and helped prepare me more thoroughly for service." -R. Araújo, Brazil
Our last GSI took place in Kenya in January of 2012. A date has not yet been set for the next GSI - it is normally held every two to three years in January.
