Dr. Delia Nüesch-Olver, Director for Latin American Ministries, is centering efforts on some strategic cities in Latin America, which are home to 84.5 million people. The population in these Latin American cities is mobile, and the goal is to spread the Free Methodist Church all through Latin America by planting numerous FM churches in each of the strategic cities and training leaders in these key urban centers.
Because the Latino population is immigrating to Europe in record
numbers, efforts could potentially extend into Europe as well. Those who adopt a Latin America project will be working directly with Dr. Nüesch-Olver, and
due to her wealth of knowledge and experience, it has the potential to
be a great learning experience in global urban ministry for the
extended church family.
In Bogotá, Colombia, specialized ministry opportunities include radio outreach and a need for VISA teams to connect with the church and help with construction. Pastor Libni and his wife, Pastora Natalia, are visionary leaders who are training others for ministry in the local church and for church planting in Bogotá and beyond.
MexicoMexico City, the most important economic hub in Latin America with a population exceeding 22 million, is an important focus of urban ministry in Latin America.
Partnering with Mexico would have far-reaching effects, as its media, culture and diverse people groups touch the rest of the world. It would also afford an opportunity to work with gifted and fruitful leaders such as Hector Perez and his family, who have a heart and vision for winning Mexico for Christ.
This connection would focus on producing a network of healthy, growing churches that will reach into all of Mexico. Some elements of the vision for Mexico City ministry include evangelism and outreach to youth and children, and the development and ongoing training of effective leaders.
Puerto Rico
In Puerto Rico, 94% of the people live in urban areas, with half of those in the capital city, San Juan. Mercedes Reynoso, a missionary from the Dominican Republic, is the conference superintendent and senior pastor of Barrio Obrero, one of the largest and fastest-growing Spanish-speaking Free Methodist churches in the Americas.
This church of nearly 400 has several satellite congregations and a television program aired throughout the island. Pastora Reynoso is a gifted evangelist, preacher and mentor of a large cadre of young adults. Her goal is to send them out to plant more churches in Puerto Rico, Antigua and beyond.
