Global Studies Intensive

GSI Cambodia

December 31 - January 13, 2009

Application/Registration begins May 1, 2008

GSI Cambodia is a creative, multicultural, multigenerational education program designed for people interested in the complexities of cross cultural ministry with a distinctly Free Methodist focus. It's geared for people who like to experience what they’re taught.  It’s intended to stimulate thinking, both in and out of the classroom and help participants better understand God’s heart for people with little or no knowledge of His existence.  There will be open and informative discussions on how to minister to people in this context.

GSI Cambodia participants must be college age or older with good oral English comprehension skills.

ATTEND GSI Cambodia and be amazed at the 12th century Khmer architecture of Angkor Wat—a huge temple complex located in the jungle just outside Seam Reap.  You’ll have 2-3 opportunities to explore this astonishing complex, but you’ll need to be in average to above average health to participate.

You’ll travel by boat to Phnom Penh to see Free Methodist ministry first hand.  Your heart will be touched when you interact with Free Methodists who’ve lived through the Khmer Rouge genocide (1975-1979) which killed approximately 1.7 million Cambodians as a result of executions, starvation, and forced labor.  You’ll have opportunity to see the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and then be encouraged by the impact Christianity is making in SE Asia.  You’ll visit Free Methodist churches and see the difference International ChildCare Ministries (ICCM) is making through education, meals and medical care.  You’ll have opportunity to visit ICCM hostels and interact with the children while also attending sessions further explaining our FM history, theology and strategies for mission involvement in the 21st century.

GSI has had nearly 200 individuals from 24 countries attend since its inception in 2000 and has been hosted in Thailand, Brazil, India and Egypt.  Don’t miss out on this fantastic learning experience that only comes around every 2-3 years.
